Fitness: Renew Your Commitment To Yourself, by Sandra O’Brien

Life is busy, and keeps getting busier. I don’t think it’s that we have more to do, it’s the fact time appears to be moving faster than ever before. I often hear from others, “Where has the time gone? It was just the end of January and here we are the beginning of April!” This quickening of time can leave us feeling overwhelmed, like we will never get it all done, like there is never enough time for ourselves. These are the times we must carve out time for ourselves. We shower and brush our teeth daily. Planning time to work out daily is also mandatory if we are to show up, shine brightly and be prepared to live life large.

I invite you to make a renewed commitment to yourself now. Today, decide to put yourself at the top of your priority list. Embracing ideal physical, mental and emotional health are key to sharing the best of you with everything in life. Grab a piece of paper, your online journal, or smart device, and list five benefits to putting yourself first. (I am going to assume, for the sake of this article, that you already know what you need to be doing to take care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually.) There are no right or wrong answers here. It’s whatever makes you feel better, motivates and inspires you to stick to your plan. Each morning before you start your day, read your list. Posting your list on your bathroom mirror or inside your vehicle also works. This will assist you with prioritizing your day.

My top five reasons why I move daily, eat real food, meditate and stay hydrated are:

  1. Eating real food makes me feel lighter, which allows me to feel more energetic.
  2. An intense workout keeps me sane and I feel like a bad ass warrior ready for whatever life can throw my way.
  3.  The connection I feel from Source when I meditate allows me to know I am never alone.
  4. I want to be the best Grandmama I can be to my future grandchildren.
  5. I intend to have my best time ever at this year’s Warrior Dash.

Taking care of your physical body does not mean you have to go to the gym everyday. It just means you move, get your heart rate up and sweat. You could go for a run outside, a brisk walk, do a body weight workout, skip in your back yard or basement, put on a video and work out. I can hear Shaun T calling your name! Practise yoga, dance in your living room, just move! Get the blood flowing and get more oxygen into your body.

There is no one in the universe just like you. No one who can bring to the table, what you are here to offer, in the outstanding way you do it. Give yourself the respect you deserve. Show others by example how to respect themselves. I encourage you to renew your commitment to yourself now, this very moment. The world is waiting for the very best of You.
