Fitness: Awakening Self-Love, by Sandra O’Brien

As we approach the end of winter and head into spring (I am an eternal optimist!), it has come to my awareness too often lately, how hard, even toxic, people can be on themselves in terms of their bodies. This applies to primarily women, but a fair share of men have the same hard line approach to the only vessel which transports them through this life. How often have you heard yourself say, “I am disgusted by my belly”, “My butt is so fat”, “I wish my legs weren’t so gross.”

Most people seem to speak about their bodies as if they were separate beings, and have no control over any of it. Still in this day and age, most people do not get the connection between the type of food they ingest, what liquids they drink, and the thoughts they think about such, and how it affects the look and feel of their body.

We are energetic beings, first and foremost. If what you consume is void of life-giving energy, it will only be a matter of time before your body starts to pay the price. If you leave the food you eat, out on a counter for a week, and it does not wilt, get moldy, or get covered in bacteria you can bet it is lacking of life-giving energy. And if you have the mindset what you are eating is going to make your butt big or your belly fat, chances are it will.

You get only one body per lifetime. Treat it as your very best friend. Loving yourself first and foremost, above all else is a great place to begin. Giving your body full support with proper nutrients, hydration, and mindset is an excellent way to abundantly shower yourself with love.

Each morning upon waking as you go to the bathroom to take care of your daily ritual, take some time to anoint yourself with loving energy. Look in the mirror, say out loud to yourself, “I love you, I am beautiful, I am worthy and deserving of having it all.” Repeat over and over for two minutes. Compliment yourself on a few things you like about yourself. Maybe it’s the way your hair flows, or the colour. Perhaps your eyes, shoulders or legs make you smile. Acknowledge the incredible beauty that you are. Fall in love with yourself. Your body will respond more readily to exercise and eating well, when it is loved from where it now is.

Your meat suit reflects your actions and thoughts up to this point in your life. You can not create the healthiest, most vibrant body possible when you are directing disgust towards it. Most will find this exercise difficult to do. Yes, you will probably feel silly. Do it anyway. It will benefit you in ways you cannot even imagine. If you can not tell yourself you are loved and show appreciation for all your body’s stellar attributes, how are you to fully embrace another?

You are awesome, and more beautiful than you can possibly imagine. Appreciate you more. Love you more. You are on the planet at this time, to shine your very brightest. Make peace with yourself, so you may show others how do to the same. The world needs you now. Go forth radiating love from every cell in your being, it’s what you are here to be.

Until next month, live and love large….

Namaste,
Sandra
