Lightening Your Load with EFT and Energy Psychology, by Victoria Anisman-Reiner

There’s no worse feeling than dragging the past behind you without knowing how to shake it off. Fears, limiting beliefs, and other traumas can take years to heal—if it’s possible even then.

Almost as bad as emotional baggage is the feeling that you’re not quite living up to your full potential. If you can’t quite see yourself succeeding, an internal sense of “stuckness” can make it hard to move forward or to claim the victories that are nearly within reach.

Emotions are no simple matter, but therapists and laypersons around the world are being stunned at the results they’re achieving with a new approach that can help people release emotional patterns, achieve what they’re truly capable of, and find happiness and peace. That approach is energy psychology.

“Energy psychology” is the umbrella term for a number of different therapies that work on healing the world of the heart, mind and soul. The body’s energy field carries more than the keys to physical health; it also affects, and is influenced by, our feelings. By working with these energy systems, it’s possible to free up energy that’s trapped in old emotions and thought patterns—and create healthier ones to replace them.

Energy psychology can be used to relieve and release:

  • Traumatic experiences or abuse
  • Fears and phobias
  • Self-limiting beliefs (e.g. “I’m not good enough” or “Nobody really loves me”)
  • Self-sabotage and addictions
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

Energy psychology can also be used for personal improvement and to achieve:

  • Self-love and self-acceptance
  • Better and more nourishing relationships
  • New, healthy opportunities at work or in your personal life
  • Greater creativity, joy and happiness
  • A quieter and more peaceful mind
  • Other personal goals of almost any kind

I was raised by a psychotherapist and provided with an emotional education from the time I could speak, but that didn’t spare me the usual childhood bumps and bruises. When my mother first began studying EFT, I was seventeen years old and not exactly eager to be one of her guinea pigs.

As an intensely emotional teenager, I quickly discovered that energy psychology made my life better in ways that would have seemed impossible before I tried it myself. Energy psychology could relieve the sting of being bullied or clear up teenage romantic turmoil— until the next round of school-related craziness hit, at least! I was an instant if reluctant fan, and I continue to use it to this day for everything from work-related stress to reshaping my internal monologues and beliefs.

You may have already heard of EFT (“Emotional Freedom Techniques”), the most popular type of energy psychology, which is beginning to find its way into the mainstream. EFT is one of many energy psychology tools based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s done by tapping points on your hands and face— the same points that are used in acupuncture— to release stress and achieve emotional well-being.

EFT is widely loved because it’s quick, powerful, painless, and easy to learn. It’s also taught for free on dozens of websites, including the official EFT site, www.emofree.com.

Whether you feel stuck inside limiting beliefs about yourself or you’re interested in exploring a new approach to inner peace and putting down some of your old baggage, EFT and other types of energy psychology are well worth the few minutes it they take to learn and to try them on for size.
