How to Help the Planet by Changing Your Underwear

PACT Organic, a clothing company based in Colorado, USA, proudly combines comfort with organic cotton: “Organic is Better. Softer. Comfier. Better For People And Our Planet.” Their lines for men and women feature leggings, hoodies, shirts, sweaters, and sleepwear.

PACT’s Organic and Fair Trade certifications are the real deal. They work with Global Organic Textile Standard and adhere to high-level environmental and human standards throughout the entire production line. PACT also discloses where they hire their workers, what their working hours are, and the benefits they provide employees, such as meals, transportation to and from their factories, a health plan, and an education fund for their children.

Parvati Magazine: Why is conventional cotton “the world’s dirtiest crop”?

Brendan Synnott: Conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides. Despite only occupying 3% of agricultural land.

Parvati Magazine: How do you keep PACT’s production process from polluting waterways?

Brendan Synnott: Organic cotton is produced and certified to organic agricultural standards, just like the organic food we eat. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs.

Parvati Magazine: Why is comfy clothing like leggings, hoodies, t-shirts and underwear a good way to start shifting our wardrobe to organic?

Brendan Synnott: We think basics is the place for consumers to vote with their dollar because super-soft underwear, leggings and t-shirts is something that you wear everyday under your outfit, no matter the journey. Kind of like your own adult superhero costume that matches your values for people and planet (that can be broken out in special situations to save the day).

Parvati Magazine: Your Instagram shows people doing yoga in your gear. Why do you think yogis are so into PACT?

Brendan Synnott: Yogis practice awareness, and so do we. We want to understand how our choices impact those around us, it’s how we improve. Plus, our hoodies and sweats are super cozy before and after class.

Parvati Magazine: What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned through PACT?

Brendan Synnott: Change starts with your underwear.
